I'm currently in Ubud, in Bali, Indoniesia. I finished reading this book a few days ago Cure: The Journey into the Science of Mind over Body by Jo Marchant:

Cure The Journey into the Science of Mind over Body by Jo Marchant

Too many people are focused on physicality and measureability - things that can be scientifically proven (mostly by animal testing with funding from massive pharmaceutical companies). But at the expensive of what actually works long-term for real people. e.g. No-one wants to study reiki as you can't make massive amounts of money for massive companies... If something has no scientific proof as to why it works, then why do so many of these things HEAL people?

It comes down to perception, belief and a heap of other things that Jo Marchant talks about in her book. I found it fascinating to see the physiological changes in people who only took placebos for example.

Some of the stats are horrific - the amount of American people who take an excessive amount of drugs that do NOT help them in a large amount of cases, and who become addicted and in debt due to these prescribed items. Also, why exactly people from low socioeconomic areas will ALWAYS have health issues - whether or not they leave the area or become successful in the future.

I love that the author was open-minded enough to try to find out why and how the mind and positive communication is so beneficial in healing.

I'd like to hope that when people read this book, they will seek to bridge the two together - using the medical industry for its GOOD stuff, and using the holistic industry also for it's positive qualities. Not just blindly buying and following what either camp is doing AND selling.

And knowing that we should trust more people when they feel better from whatever works for them - because it truly DOES affect their physical symptoms and can really heal people. Which is something I know we need a lot more of.
