Why Vegan?
First of all, I believe in being compassionate. True strength comes from upholding the weak; and animals are at our mercy. It follows in a higher spiritual practice to care for animals.
Secondly, plant-based proteins are often much more bioavailable. Plants are super foods that are necessary for peak performance. They impose less of a digestive burden, which increases energy and vitality. Since I am over 40, I need to be able to sustain my energy and recover from the intense physical demands training places on me.

Training
What sort of training do you do?
I cross-train with weights, calisthenics, and cardio.

How often do you (need to) train?
My training schedule goes six days per week.

Do you offer your fitness or training services to others?
Yes, I am an ACE-certified personal trainer, and am passionate about teaching others how to maximize their mental strength, health, and wellness.

Strengths, Weaknesses & Outside Influences
What do you think is the biggest misconception about vegans and how do you address this?
Most people think vegans are weak. Every time I walk into the gym, I work to bust that myth.

What are you strengths as a vegan athlete?
I have a tremendous amount of energy, focus, and strength. My recovery is rapid.

What is your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge is maintaining muscle mass.

Are the non-vegans in your industry supportive or not?
They think that I am out of my mind. In their opinion, there is no way to be an athlete that does not consume animal flesh.

Are your family and friends supportive of your vegan lifestyle?
They are frightened of illnesses that they think must accompany aging - ones that I have already overcome through a healthy lifestyle.

What is the most common question/comment that people ask/say when they find out that you are a vegan and how do you respond?
Question: "How do you get your protein?" Answer: "You'd be surprised to find out how many new plant-based proteins are available: hemp, rice, nuts, spirulina, legumes, and more - and they are more digestible and bioavailable."

Who or what motivates you?
I am inspired by the people you have interviewed. However, I am internally motivated and love to challenge myself, and break personal records.
